On November 4, 2025, BrightNight, a company specializing in digital energy infrastructure, finalized a strategic partnership with Cordelio Power to secure financing for their Pioneer Clean Energy Center project. This hybrid facility, consisting of a 300 MW solar power plant and a 300 MW / 1,200 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), will be located in Yuma, Arizona. Designed to meet the obligations of a long-term power purchase agreement with a local utility, the project aims to provide reliable and flexible energy to the state.
The Pioneer project, which combines large-scale energy generation with storage, addresses a critical need for Arizona, which faces rapidly increasing electricity demand. It is also designed to support local grid stability and reliability. The energy storage system will allow on-demand power delivery, even when solar generation is insufficient, providing a significant advantage for optimal power supply management.
The financing for the project has been secured through a syndicate of major lenders, including Crédit Agricole, MUFG, Royal Bank of Canada, National Bank of Canada, CoBank, and ING. This fundraising reflects strong market confidence in BrightNight and Cordelio Power’s ability to deploy complex hybrid energy assets, combining utility-scale solar generation with large-scale storage, and strengthens their position in the U.S. energy market.
A Key Project for Arizona’s Energy Future
The Pioneer Clean Energy Center represents not only a milestone for the two partner companies but also a significant development for the energy sector in Arizona. With a capacity of 300 MW of solar power and a large-scale storage system, the project is part of a broader strategy to meet the state’s growing electricity demand, especially during peak periods. The project is also supported by BrightNight’s proprietary artificial intelligence (AI) software, PowerAlpha®, which optimized the design and management of the hybrid system.
The partner companies have highlighted their collaboration with local communities and partners as a key factor in the project’s success. BrightNight also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Arizona’s energy transition by providing reliable and clean energy to the state’s residents and businesses. On-site construction is underway, with commercial operation expected by April 2027.
A Hybrid Model to Meet Growing Energy Needs
The hybrid model of the Pioneer project, combining solar energy with battery storage, represents a promising solution for Arizona’s future energy landscape. This model helps overcome some of the challenges inherent in renewable energy, such as solar generation intermittency, by ensuring stable power supply through energy storage. The project is designed to provide firm, on-demand capacity, which is a major asset for grid reliability in Arizona, particularly as the state’s population and economic activity grow.
BrightNight and Cordelio Power’s strategy hinges on their ability to execute complex projects while addressing critical energy needs. The completion of this important financing milestone strengthens their position in the U.S. hybrid energy market and marks a significant step toward the implementation of innovative technologies aimed at solving tomorrow’s energy challenges.
