Boralex Inc. has been awarded two wind power projects totalling 125 megawatts (MW) under the tenth period of the so-called PPE2 tender organised by the Commission de régulation de l’énergie (CRE). This selection places the Canadian company at the top of the process, with 13% of the allocated capacity.
The most significant project concerns the renewal and extension of the Ally-Mercœur wind farm, located in the Haute-Loire department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. With an installed capacity of 101 MW, it will become the largest wind farm in the department once commissioned, which is currently scheduled for 2028.
Second project awarded in Hauts-de-France
The second project, named Ouest-Château-Thierry, is planned in the Aisne department in the Hauts-de-France region. Its installed capacity will reach 23 MW, with commissioning expected in 2027. The turbines will be located in the municipalities of Marigny-en-Orxois and Lucy-le-Bocage.
These two developments are part of the company’s roadmap outlined in its 2030 Strategy, which includes around EUR950mn ($1.01bn) in investments in France by the end of the decade. Boralex states that these projects will contribute to its targeted growth in the country, where it holds a project portfolio of over 2 gigawatts (GW).
Strengthening market position in France
Boralex’s portfolio in France already includes several operational wind and solar installations. This latest award under the PPE2 reinforces the visibility of its upcoming projects in a context of growing competition among developers in the French market.
The company, headquartered in Quebec, continues to direct its investments towards Europe, where it observes steady demand for renewable energy projects supported by national tender mechanisms.
