Berrybank 2 selected by Global Power Generation to equip an electricity storage project in Australia.
A local presence
Berrybank 2 selected as technological partner, will equip an electricity storage project in Australia. The storage battery installation will support the Australian Capital Territory’s distribution system at the Queanbeyan substation. This project is also in partnership with the region’s transmission system service provider, TransGrid.
The 10MW and 20MWh battery system complements the 109MW Berrybank 2 wind farm. Global Power Generation will begin operation of the Victoria project in the coming months. This is the first large-scale storage project in Australia for which Ingeteam will provide a complete offering.
A technological challenge
José Antonio Unanue, Director of Ingeteam’s Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) business, says:
“This project was a real challenge for us, as it involved the complete supply (power plants, battery containers, control system, etc.) for a project developed in the antipodes, in a very complicated context due to the numerous restrictions posed by the pandemic. The project could not have been carried out without the essential contribution of our subsidiary in Australia. That is why we at BESS are very happy and proud to have successfully completed it.”
Ingeteam will be responsible for the operation and maintenance through its local subsidiary. In addition, it provides two power conversion systems, four 2.5MW/5MWh battery storage containers.
Ingeteam will also deliver the control system to manage the operation of the entire storage plant. The Berrybank 2 wind farm is the company’s second large-scale storage project in Australia and third in Oceania. Ingeteam previously supplied power conversion systems for projects on the continent.
