B2U Storage Solutions has begun construction of its first grid storage facility in Texas, located in Bexar County, east of San Antonio, with a capacity of 24MWh. This project relies on 500 batteries sourced from electric vehicles (EVs), distributed across 21 cabinets, and is based on the company’s patented Electric Power Storage (EPS) technology. It is the third site of its kind developed by the company in the United States, following operational installations in California.
Technology deployment and expansion strategy
B2U Storage Solutions’ EPS technology is UL 9540 certified and enables plug-and-play integration of end-of-life EV batteries, without the need for remanufacturing. The system is designed to optimise operational costs and ensure reliable, continuous operation. Energy flow management and access to wholesale markets are managed by artificial intelligence integrated into the platform, enabling the provision of grid services and maximising electricity value.
The facility will be connected to the network via the local distributor CPS Energy. In Texas, where demand is rising sharply and renewables are expanding, battery energy storage systems have become a response to recurring episodes of electricity price volatility. The battery storage market is accelerating in the state, particularly as investment in transmission and distribution infrastructure remains limited.
Growth prospects for B2U and the sector
Over the next twelve months, B2U Storage Solutions plans to deploy three additional grid storage projects in Texas, bringing total installed capacity in the state to 100MWh. Including its solar-associated storage projects already operating in California, the company targets more than 150MWh of repurposed EV batteries in operation by mid-2026.
A report published in December 2024 by the analysis firm IDTechEx anticipates that more than 200GWh of global grid storage demand could be met with repurposed EV batteries by 2035. According to this report, several tens of millions of electric vehicles are expected to reach end of life over the next decade, creating a significant source of batteries for grid applications before ultimate recycling.
Freeman Hall, Chief Executive Officer of B2U Storage Solutions, said the development of this Texan site represents a strategic milestone for the company and highlights the growing role of battery repurposing in industrial energy storage.
