Axpo,Switzerland’s largest producer ofrenewable energies, is expanding its solar and wind power activities. A pillar of the group’s strategy, the wind and solar activities integrate two internal divisions. Katja Stommel and Antoine Millioud will head the new Wind and Solar divisions respectively.

Solar and wind power – a long-standing priority for Axpo

As the leading Swiss producer of renewable energy, the group recognized very early on the need to develop solar and wind power. Christoph Sutter was the former head of the renewable energy division. He has been developing this sector for the last ten years.

Therefore, the strategic acquisitions of Volkswind in 2015 and Urbasolar in 2019 are fundamental. These two subsidiaries are new, fast-growing competence centers at Axpo. A strategy focused on renewable energy that is now bearing fruit.

Two subsidiaries, solar and wind, created internally

Today, more than 500 of Axpo’s 5,000 employees work in these two areas. Due to this unprecedented growth, the group created two internal divisions. Axpo therefore intends to show a clear ambition in the field of renewable energies. This ambition was underlined by Andy Heiz, CEO and deputy of the group:

“With this measure, we want to emphasize the importance of the wind and solar sectors and give a clear signal of our strategy in the field of renewable energy.”

Two experienced leaders

With the departure of Christoph Sutter in the fall of 2022, who is now an independent entrepreneur, two experienced managers will join the company. Katja Stommel, CEO of the Axpo subsidiary Volkswind, will take over the management of the Wind division as of October 1, 2022. Under his leadership since 2015, the subsidiary continued to grow in the German, French and Romanian markets.

Swiss, Antoine Millioud, CEO of aventron, is one of the leading Swiss producers of renewable energy, since 2013. This experienced player in the field of renewable energies will take over the management of the Solar division.
