Avangrid has announced the start of energy production from its True North solar project in Falls County, Texas. With 20 MW already in service, this project represents a significant step forward for the company, adding a new dimension to its energy portfolio.

Progress of the True North project

True North, a 238 MWac (321 MWdc) solar installation, is on track to reach full operational capacity by the end of the year. Once completed, the project will supply energy to the Texas power grid, supporting the state’s growing electricity needs. The project is also designed to supply Meta’s future data center in Temple with 100% renewable energy.
Construction work is progressing according to schedule, with a positive impact on the local economy. Job creation and substantial tax contributions are key aspects of this development, with over $40 million expected in property taxes over the life of the project.

Economic and local impact

The True North project is not limited to energy production. It represents a significant source of revenue for local communities, thanks to property taxes that directly support essential public services and local schools. Avangrid, which already has a strong presence in Texas with over 1,200 MW of installed wind capacity, continues to invest in the state, reinforcing its commitment to local infrastructure.

Avangrid strategy and outlook

With this project, Avangrid strengthens its position in the US solar energy market. The company, which already operates in 24 states, is continuing its strategic expansion in renewable energies. The success of the True North project could serve as a model for other future projects in the country.
Expansion into solar power is a key element of Avangrid’s strategy to diversify its energy portfolio and meet growing demand for clean energy. This project also illustrates the company’s ability to successfully complete large-scale projects on time and on budget.
The launch of power generation at the True North solar project marks a major milestone for Avangrid in Texas. As well as contributing to the state’s energy diversification, the project brings tangible economic benefits to local communities. With commercial operations planned by the end of 2024, True North is well positioned to become a key player in the Texas energy landscape.
