Avangrid launches its new Park City Wind offshore wind project in Connecticut.
The company’s initiative fits perfectly with the state’s energy objectives.
Avangrid makes its mark in the United States
Avangrid is part of the Iberdrola group.
Its subsidiary Avangrid Renewables aims to become the leading sustainable energy company in the USA.
The Park City Windoffshore wind project in Connecticut is the company’s second major project.
Above all, it will give Avangrid a new foothold in the wind energy market.
Park City is the nickname of the town of Bridgeport in which the project will be located.
This is a major program for Connecticut, as it represents the largest offshore purchase in history.
Ultimately, it is expected to supply nearly 14% of the state’s electricity needs, sparking a new local economic boom.
Nearly 2,800 new full-time jobs are expected to be created.
The aim is to meet the state’s wind energy quotas by 2030.
The first Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) underway
Before the first phases of construction can begin, an environmental impact study must be carried out.
The findings must then be approved by the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM).
In the meantime, a local office has been set up near the project site to oversee the work.
Its role will also be to raise awareness of the project in the local community and oversee workforce training.
Park City Wind thus paves the way for new offshore wind turbine installation projects in the rest of the United States.
