The onshore wind farm Strekdammen in the Netherlands has been acquired by the insurance group, asr. This is the fourth wind farm acquisition for the group.

A complex exhibition

The Strekdammen wind farm has been operational since mid-2022. It consists of two wind turbines with a combined total capacity of 11MW. This is equivalent to the energy consumption of nearly 15,500 households.

The turbines adapt to the saline conditions and wind speeds near the coast in the port of Eemshaven. Greenchoice will continue to purchase the electricity generated by the park. The acquisition of Strekdammen is part of asr’s goal to invest €4.5 billion by the end of 2024.

A development axis

Dick Gort, CEO of asr real estate says:

“Asr wants to be a leader in corporate sustainability in the financial sector. I am proud that in addition to the Pesse solar farm, we have now acquired four wind farms, increasing our share in renewable energy projects, in which we invest on behalf of asr. With the Jaap Rodenburg wind farm in Almere, the Nieuwe Hemweg in Amsterdam and part of the Ariane wind farm in Wieringermeer, we will soon have four operational wind farms. In the future, we will also continue to focus on renewable energy sources that contribute to the energy transition and a sustainable living environment.”

Pondera and Rebel, the owners of Strekdammen Park are both happy to sell their park to asr. In addition, the company aims to become a leader in sustainability in the financial sector.

Despite Strekdammen’s technical challenges, the park was completed on time and within budget. Asr takes over at a natural moment to continue the operation of providing more renewable electricity to the Netherlands. This acquisition is an advantage for the Dutch energy transition.
