Ardagh and CI Renewables are completing the construction of a 13-megawatt (MW) solar power plant in Madera, California. This facility, managed by VALTA Energy, is expected to be fully operational by March 2025.
A 13 MW Solar Power Plant
The power plant will provide approximately 20% of the electricity needs for Ardagh’s glass manufacturing facility located in Madera. According to estimates, this capacity equals the annual consumption of more than 2,500 average U.S. households, based on data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (2023).
This initiative aims to reduce demand on the local electric grid by leveraging a renewable energy source.
A Strategic Project in California
California, facing challenges with its energy grid, views such projects as a partial solution to structural issues. Ardagh is part of a regional trend where large industries adopt alternative electricity sources to stabilize operations.
The power plant, designed for long-term operation, demonstrates a gradual adaptation of industrial processes to current energy constraints.
