An agreement to strengthen energy cooperation between Italy and Azerbaijan

The agreement between Ansaldo Energia and AzerEnerji aims to strengthen energy cooperation between Italy and Azerbaijan. The Italian Minister of Enterprise, Adolfo Urso, described the agreement as important and stressed the value of the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Azerbaijan, a key energy supplier for Italy

Azerbaijan is one of Italy’s main energy suppliers. Italy has diversified its gas supply sources to become independent of Russia. This has allowed it to multiply agreements with other countries, including Algeria, Angola and Libya.

According to Adolfo Urso, Italy should do without gas imports from Russia this year and thus become completely energy independent. He also stressed that Italy will become the European gas hub by increasing the capacity of Azerbaijan’s TAP pipeline and supplying other countries.

Ansaldo Energia majority owned by the Italian Caisse des Dépôts

Ansaldo Energia is 88% owned by the Italian Caisse des Dépôts (CDP) and 12% by the Chinese group Shanghai Electric. This shows the importance of the Italian state’s involvement in Italy’s energy activities.
