AMIGO LNG SA de CV, a joint venture between Texas-based Epcilon LNG LLC and Singapore-based LNG Alliance, has awarded the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for its marine facilities to Constructora Manzanillo SA de CV (COMSA Marine). The project involves the development of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal with an annual capacity of 7.8 million tonnes, located in Guaymas, in the state of Sonora, on Mexico’s west coast.

Scope of the contract and technical specifications
Under this agreement, COMSA Marine will be responsible for detailed engineering, construction and commissioning of the marine infrastructure, including the LNG jetty, berthing and mooring facilities, as well as utilities associated with loading operations. The terminal will feature four berths equipped with high-capacity loading arms exceeding 15,000 m³/hour, aiming to reduce vessel turnaround times and improve operational efficiency.

Schedule and strategic positioning
Commercial operations at the terminal are scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2028. Guaymas’ location offers access to a deepwater port and close proximity to major gas reserves, reducing shipping distances and potentially shortening voyage times by about 35%, according to the company. The project is also expected to boost local economic activity by engaging the regional supply chain and creating jobs in the state of Sonora.

Dr Muthu Chezhian, Chief Executive Officer of LNG Alliance, stated that COMSA Marine’s experience in LNG terminal construction and marine engineering was an asset for meeting the highest safety and quality standards. Ruben Alamo, President of COMSA Marine, said the project’s success would rely on local expertise combined with adherence to international standards.
