American solar covers 61% of electricity demand growth in 2025
An analysis from think tank Ember reveals that solar energy absorbed 61% of the increase in electricity demand in the United States in 2025. Solar generation grew by 83 TWh, a historic record.

Solar energy is emerging as the main contributor to American electricity system growth. According to a study published by Ember, electricity demand in the United States increased by 135 TWh in 2025, a 3.1% rise. This increase represents the fourth largest of the past decade. Over the same period, solar generation recorded a record growth of 83 TWh, up 27% compared to 2024.
