Akuo announces the start of construction of the Planeta Rica photovoltaic park in Colombia.
This 26.55 MW solar project is the result of a cooperation with MPC Energy, a global green energy operator.
Akuo to power more than 25,000 homes
Under construction in the Colombian department of Córdoba, Planeta Rica will supply around 25,000 households with its 26.55 MW annual output.
The new solar park is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 9,000 tonnes.
Scheduled to be operational in the second quarter of 2022, the solar park will free the country from its dependence on hydroelectric power and fossil fuels.
“Córdoba has great potential in photovoltaic energy thanks to its high levels of annual sunshine, and Akuo’s arrival will make the department more visible and position it further at national level on energy issues,” says Angélica Benedetti Chica, Executive Director of ProMonteria.
150 jobs
The solar park benefits from a 15-year PPA (power purchase agreement) with Grupo Argos company Celsia.
The companies Mota-Engil Colombia S.A.S. and SOCOLCO S.A.S. make up the Planeta Rica Consortium, responsible for the construction of the project.
All in all, more than 150 jobs will be generated by the solar project, 80% of them unskilled workers from local communities.
