Akuo is inaugurating two projects, in two opposite locations of the globe, one in the South Pacific and the other in the Kingdom of Tonga. The first project is a battery storage plant and the second is a wind farm.

The largest storage system in the South Pacific

Akuo and Tonga Power Limited inaugurate Tonga 1 & 2. It is the largest battery energy storage device in the South Pacific. Thus, the project has a total capacity of 29.2MWh/16.5MW.

Tonga 1 and 2 incorporate Storage GEM, Akuo’s modular storage container technology. Of the 8 containers installed, 3 are at the Tonga 1 site and 5 at the Tonga 2 site. In addition, due to the health situation, the project was piloted remotely.

These two plants already proved their resilience last January. Indeed, a volcanic eruption caused a tsunami devastating the coasts of the archipelago. However, both plants continued to operate contributing to stability after the disaster.

A large wind farm in the United States

The Akuo Group and its partners recently inaugurated the Escalade wind power plant. Akuo was in charge of the project management assistance on the site. He now continues to maintain the site.

The wind farm is one of the ten largest in the country. Its capacity is 336MW. In addition, this is Akuo’s first plant in which it operates Vestas V162 and V150 turbines.

In total the park has 45 V162 turbines of 5MW each and 50 V150 turbines of 4.2MW each. These turbines have been operational since May 2022. For Akuo, the V162, EnVentus turbines represent the next generation of wind turbines.
