Air Liquide continues to expand its operations in the United States with a $50mn investment aimed at optimising its hydrogen infrastructure along the Gulf Coast. The group has signed new long-term contracts with two of the country’s largest refiners, reinforcing its presence in a key industrial hub.
Asset optimisation and capacity expansion
The investment targets upgrades to Air Liquide’s existing network, including the integration of new compression and distribution equipment directly connected to its current pipelines. This strategy allows the group to increase its supply capabilities without developing additional infrastructure, thereby maximising use of its established assets.
The group’s hydrogen network in the region is linked to the Spindletop cavern in Texas, considered the world’s largest hydrogen storage facility. Owned and operated by Air Liquide, this site is a strategic asset ensuring flexible and secure supply to regional industrial clients.
Strengthening in a key industrial market
The US Gulf Coast is a critical centre for refining and petrochemical activities. By leveraging its existing infrastructure, Air Liquide can meet growing hydrogen demand while maintaining operational efficiency and controlled execution timelines.
According to Matthieu Giard, member of Air Liquide’s Executive Committee overseeing operations in the Americas, this strategic move “is part of our effort to expand our industrial footprint and support the evolution of the regional energy landscape.”
