Agreement between IHA and CISPDR to promote hydropower

The International Hydropower Association (IHA) and CISPDR Corp. sign a memorandum of understanding at the World Water Forum in Bali to promote sustainable river basin management and hydropower sustainability certification in China.

The International Hydropower Association (IHA) signs a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CISPDR Corp. at the World Water Forum in Bali, Indonesia. This agreement aims to explore opportunities to raise awareness of sustainable hydropower in river basin management. It will also facilitate implementation of the Hydropower Sustainability Standard and certification in China. IHA member CISPDR Corp. played a key role in the surveying, planning and design of the Three Gorges Project and the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, two of China’s most important hydraulic projects. Hu Xiangyang, Chairman of CISPDR Corp. said: “CISPDR Corp. is honored to sign this MoU with IHA. We look forward to sharing what we have learned to increase sustainable practices in river systems. We need to collaborate and work together to achieve sustainability.”

A shared commitment to sustainability

Pablo Valverde, Deputy Managing Director of the International Hydropower Association, added: “It’s great to benefit from the expertise that CISPDR offers as a member of IHA. We look forward to maximizing their knowledge and working together to promote the future of sustainable hydropower”.

The challenges of hydropower sustainability

Sustainable river basin management is crucial to ensure that hydropower projects minimize their environmental impact while maximizing economic and social benefits. The Hydropower Sustainability Standard, developed by IHA, provides a framework for assessing and certifying hydropower projects according to their environmental, social and economic performance. The certification of this standard in China, facilitated by the partnership with CISPDR, will help promote more sustainable practices in the Chinese hydropower sector.

Towards a sustainable energy future

The agreement between IHA and CISPDR Corp. reflects a shared commitment to promoting sustainability in the hydropower sector. By working together, the two organizations aim to develop innovative solutions for managing river basins in a sustainable way, and to implement rigorous sustainability standards for hydropower projects.
