AEP commissions its 287 MW Maverick wind farm in Oklahoma
Located southwest of Enid, Oklahoma, Maverick is one of three wind projects in the North Central Wind Energy Project, which is developing 1485 MW of clean energy for customers of AEP subsidiaries Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) and Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO).
In addition to Maverick, North Central Energy facilities include the 199 MW Sundance project, which began commercial operation in April 2021.
The 999 MW Traverse project is scheduled to go into commercial operation in early 2022.
Powering 440,000 American homes
“The three North Central wind projects will produce enough energy to power 440,000 homes and will be a valuable addition to AEP’s generation portfolio as we strive to add nearly 16,600 megawatts of regulated wind and solar resources by 2030,” says Nicholas K. Akins, President and CEO of AEP.
In addition, North Central Wind Energy ‘s combined wind projects represent a $2 billion investment by developer Invenergy.
