Avenues of cooperation

ACWA Power and PLN announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. Thus, ACWA Power is expanding its Indonesian portfolio. PLN is the Indonesian public electricity provider.

The agreement covers the development of battery storage for renewable energy installations. The two partners will also work on the development of of renewable hydrogen in Indonesia. The partners signed this agreement during the B20/G20 summit in Bali.

ACWA Power and PLN will jointly explore several partnership opportunities. Thus, the partners will carry out a project study for the pumped storage of a 600 to 800MW hydroelectric facility. In addition, they will investigate the possibility of a 4GW battery energy storage system and the development of a hydro-powered hydrogen and ammonia facility.

A partnership to develop

PLN is the only buyer of electricity generated by independent power projects, including renewable energy, in Indonesia. To date, the company owns or operates nearly two-thirds of the local power generation industry (65.5 GW). The government ‘s goal is to reach 23% of electricity generated from renewable energy sources by 2025.

PLN’s collaboration with ACWA Power involved the construction of floating solar power plants. Indeed, in October 2022, the two companies were developing Singkarak and Saguling. This engagement seeks to explore joint business opportunities.

ACWA Power and PLN are exploring the development of renewable energy projects in the areas of solar photovoltaic and wind power. The two companies are working together in the fields of hydroelectricity, battery storage and geothermal energy. Thus, the partnership will continue in renewable hydrogen and green ammonia facilities.
