Abyss Solutions, a company specializing in autonomous inspection technologies, has signed a research and development contract with Petrobras, a major player in the Brazilian oil sector. This partnership aims to design an innovative image contextualization and enrichment solution for maintaining offshore infrastructure. The goal is to enhance the digital integrity of energy assets by integrating operational and technical metadata to optimize inspection processes.

The new technology developed by Abyss Solutions addresses challenges related to incomplete input data by ensuring scalability across Petrobras’ fleet with reduced processing times. This solution will be integrated into Ativo360, Petrobras’ digital asset management ecosystem, already deployed across its infrastructure.

A Leverage for Cost and Maintenance Optimization

Abyss Solutions’ technology enables the automation of scene element identification based on all available digital data from assets. This approach reduces reliance on physical inspections, thereby decreasing the number of man-hours exposed to risks (MHER).

By facilitating better maintenance planning, this technology also aims to lower operational expenditures (OPEX). A reduced demand for support vessels during production shutdowns could result in significant cost savings while optimizing the efficiency of field teams.

Expanding Scope for Offshore and Onshore Infrastructure

Initially, this technology will be applied to Petrobras’ entire offshore fleet. However, the project framework includes a potential extension to the company’s onshore infrastructure. The gradual integration of this innovation across Petrobras’ various business segments could serve as a model for other industry players looking to streamline operations through advanced digital tools.

Advancements in this field reflect a broader trend in the oil industry, where the adoption of automated inspection solutions is becoming a key strategic focus to improve equipment reliability and reduce intervention costs.
