Eolus has submitted a permit application for the Najaderna offshore wind project, located outside Tierp. This ambitious project comprises up to 67 wind turbines and is estimated to generate 4 to 5 TWh of electricity per year. This initiative represents a significant addition of renewable electricity in a region where consumption is set to grow considerably in the coming years.
Economic and social impact
As well as creating new job opportunities, the Najaderna project will bring in millions of Swedish kronor annually to the local community. Anna Lundsgård, Head of Offshore at Eolus, emphasizes the importance of the project in a region with substantial investment, while preserving the sensitive marine environment.
Located around 17 kilometers from the coast, in the municipality of Tierp, the project lies within Sweden’s economic zone. It is located in an area designated as suitable for offshore wind energy extraction. The depth of the water makes it possible to build closer to land with existing technology, thus reducing costs.
Community and environmental benefits
The project could be completed in the early 2030s, generating income for the local community through the distribution of part of the proceeds from electricity production. Depending on the size of the project and future electricity prices, this could represent up to SEK 7 million annually for local associations and activities.
Per Witalisson, CEO of Eolus, points out that the Östra Mellansverige region consumes a third of Sweden’s electricity. Najaderna would provide an annual addition of up to 5 TWh of fossil-free electricity directly to transforming and new industries such as hydrogen production and manufacturing.
The Najaderna project represents a major opportunity for Sweden to strengthen its energy infrastructure and support industries in transition, while helping to create jobs and protect the environment.
