Neoen has inaugurated its first solar farm in Canada, located in Starland County, Alberta. With a capacity of 93 MWp, Fox Coulee began generating electricity in December 2023 and will reach full production capacity in the coming weeks.

A Strategic Project for Neoen

The Fox Coulee solar farm, wholly owned by Neoen, is designed to produce around 100 GWh of electricity per year, equivalent to the annual consumption of 20,000 homes. Neoen plans to sell part of the electricity via PPAs, while the rest will be sold on the deregulated Alberta market.

Strengthening Neoen’s Position in Canada

The inauguration of Fox Coulee marks an important step in Neoen’s growth strategy in Canada. In addition to this solar farm, Neoen is developing further projects in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario, including the 400 MW Grey Owl storage project in Ontario. Ryan Dick, responsible for the province of Alberta for Neoen, emphasized the importance of this project for the expansion of renewable energies in Canada.

Development prospects

Neoen has established offices in Calgary and Toronto, strengthening its capacity to develop solar and storage projects in Canada. The company aims to play a key role in the country’s energy transition, working closely with local communities and stakeholders.

Continued growth for Neoen

Since its foundation in 2008, Neoen has grown rapidly, becoming a major player in renewable energy production worldwide. With emblematic projects such as the Cestas solar farm in France and the Hornsdale power reserve in Australia, Neoen continues to expand its global footprint. The company is aiming for 10 GW of capacity in operation or under construction by the end of 2025.
