Pattern Energy Group LP (Pattern Energy), a major player in the renewable energy and transmission infrastructure sector, has announced the signing of a 30-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Hydro-Québec. The contract covers the 150-megawatt (MW) Broughton Wind project, located in the municipalities of Saint-Pierre-de-Broughton, Sacré-Coeur-de-Jésus and Thetford Mines, some 64 kilometers south of Quebec City. Broughton Wind is expected to supply electricity to more than 25,000 Quebec households each year.

Strategic Partnership

Pattern Energy CEO Hunter Armistead said the project strengthens the company’s presence in Quebec and Canada. “With 11 installations across the country, Pattern Energy continues to develop its activities, in collaboration with our local partners,” he said. The Broughton Wind project is an equal partnership between Pattern Energy and a coalition of community and aboriginal partners, including the MRC des Appalaches, the MRC de l’Érable, the Conseil des Abenakis d’Odanak and the Conseil des Abenakis de Wolinak.

Economic impact

The project represents an investment of around 500 million Canadian dollars, and will generate significant economic spin-offs for the region. Construction will create up to 200 jobs, including equipment operators, electricians and other professionals. Once operational, the project will require 10 full-time employees for its operation and maintenance. Construction is scheduled to start in 2028, with commercial commissioning in 2029. This project will enable Pattern Energy to double its wind energy production capacity in the province. The Broughton Wind project, with its significant investment and economic impact, is part of Pattern Energy’s growth strategy in Quebec. The collaboration with Hydro-Québec and local partners demonstrates Pattern Energy’s commitment to strengthening its production capacity while supporting the regional economy.
