On May 17, 2024, EDF Renewables announced the opening of a crowdfunding campaign via the Lendosphere platform to finance the Ottmarsheim photovoltaic power plant, located in the Haut-Rhin region of France. This 200,000 euro project is exclusively reserved for residents of the Haut-Rhin, Bas-Rhin, Vosges and Territoire de Belfort departments. The aim is to enable local residents to participate directly in their region’s energy transition by investing in a renewable energy source.

Ottmarsheim Photovoltaic Project

The Ottmarsheim solar power plant, due to open in July 2023, is located on rehabilitated former industrial land. With an installed capacity of 15.5 MWp, it comprises 28,000 photovoltaic panels and produces the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of 7,500 inhabitants, i.e. 2.2 times the population of the communes of Ottmarsheim and Hombourg.

Local Contribution and Sustainable Development

This participatory financing initiative enables local residents to decarbonize their savings while participating in a local environmental project. Investment conditions, including yield and duration, are detailed on the Lendosphere website. EDF Renewables, in partnership with Lendosphere, is offering citizens the opportunity to invest a minimum of 100 euros to support this energy transition project.

An ethical investment opportunity

Since 2015, EDF Renewables has involved 5,000 private investors in the construction of renewable facilities in France, raising €10 million through 60 fundraisings. These campaigns, which are mainly open to local residents, meet a growing demand for investment in local energy transition while offering direct economic benefits to participants. Gaëtan Lesne, Head of Regional Development Grand-Est for EDF Renewables, expresses his satisfaction at seeing individuals contribute to the participatory financing of the Ottmarsheim solar power plant. He emphasizes that this project is the fruit of close collaboration with the region’s stakeholders, transforming a former industrial site into an asset for the region’s energy transition. Crowdfunding for the Ottmarsheim solar power plant by EDF Renewables is an exemplary local energy transition initiative. This campaign offers a unique opportunity to play an active part in the energy transition, while benefiting from an ethical and ecological return on investment.
