Germany: Pioneering energy storage project with Sungrow and Nofar Energy

Sungrow, the world leader in photovoltaic inversion and energy storage systems, has announced the signing of a preliminary agreement with Nofar Energy. The project, located in Stendal, Saxony-Anhalt, will be the first in Germany to use the PowerTitan2.0 liquid energy storage system. The system was presented for the first time in Europe at the “Power Up Your Future – Sungrow PowerTitan2.0 Experience Day” event in Madrid, Spain, on March 7, 2024.

Technological Innovation and Economic Benefits

The PowerTitan2.0 system integrates a 2.5 MW energy conversion system and a 5 MWh battery in a single 20-foot container, representing a significant step forward in terms of efficiency and safety. The liquid-cooling technology, a first in Germany, contributes to a considerable reduction in capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operating costs (OPEX), making the project particularly attractive to investors and power grid operators.

Impact on Europe’s Energy Transition

Europe, led by Germany, is rapidly embracing the energy transition, aiming to produce 80% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030. Energy storage system (ESS) projects like this one are vital to achieving these goals. They enable more efficient use of renewable energies and improve grid stability. According to S&P Global Commodity Insights, more than 140 GW should be installed between 2024 and 2030, underlining the growing importance of these technologies in the European energy landscape.

Tzvi Ben David, Sungrow’s Managing Director for Germany, and Ofer Yannay, President of Nofar Energy, both expressed their enthusiasm for the partnership. It not only strengthens Nofar’s network of suppliers, but also marks a significant expansion of their operations in Europe. With over 1 GW of solar projects already underway and significant storage capacity under construction, Nofar Energy is positioned as a key player in the electrical storage sector. Its strengths lie in its ambitions for continued growth and in leveraging its expertise in BESS to generate superior returns.
This project between Sungrow and Nofar Energy in Stendal represents an important milestone for the energy storage industry, illustrating how technological innovation and strategic partnerships can play a crucial role in achieving decarbonization targets and strengthening the resilience of the electricity grid.
