Energy giant TotalEnergies strengthens its presence in the Polish market by acquiring Polska Grupa Biogazowa (PGB), Poland’s leading biogas producer. With this acquisition, TotalEnergies becomes the leader in Poland’s promising biogas market, Europe’s fourth largest potential for biogas and biomethane production.

Acquisition of Polska Grupa Biogazowa (PGB)

PGB owns and operates 17 facilities producing renewable electricity from biogas derived from organic waste, as well as a development pipeline of 23 projects. The acquisition of PGB will increase TotalEnergies’ biogas production capacity to 1.1 TWh, making the company Europe’s second largest biogas producer.

Poland, a promising market for renewable energies

TotalEnergies is also investing in the Polish solar market with the acquisition of six solar projects under development, representing a production capacity of 200 MW. These solar farms will be located in northern and western Poland, with the first projects due to come on stream by 2025.

Stéphane Michel, President Gas, Renewables & Power at TotalEnergies, said: “These agreements illustrate TotalEnergies’ commitment to developing its renewable activities in Poland, and throughout Europe, in support of the European Green Deal. With these two transactions, we are delighted to be able to support Poland in its ambition to develop renewable energies and strengthen its energy sovereignty.”

TotalEnergies, committed to the energy transition

TotalEnergies is building a portfolio of activities in electricity and renewable energies. By the end of 2022, TotalEnergies’ gross installed renewable electricity generation capacity will be close to 17 GW. The company is aiming to reach 35 GW of gross generating capacity from renewable sources and storage by 2025, then 100 GW by 2030, with the goal of being among the world’s top 5 producers of electricity from wind and solar power. TotalEnergies also aims to produce at least 20 TWh per year by 2030, which represents the average annual gas consumption of four million French consumers, and a reduction in CO2 emissions of around four million tonnes.

In conclusion, these acquisitions strengthen TotalEnergies’ position in the renewable energies market and underline its commitment to the energy transition in Poland and Europe.
