GE Renewable Energy announced today that it has been selected by wpd to supply 16 onshore wind turbines to three wind farms located in Landkreis Uelzen, Niedersachsen, 100 km southeast of Hamburg. The three projects have a total installed capacity of 88 MW and will operate GE’s 5.5 MW turbines with a rotor diameter of 158 meters. In addition, GE Renewable Energy will provide a full 15-year service contract with an option to extend for an additional 5 years.
The wind farms will produce enough energy to provide electricity to the equivalent of about 90,000 homes per year and will be operational within the next two years. The two projects Bankewitz and Müssingen are expected to be commissioned by the end of 2023, while the third project, called Flinten, is scheduled for the first quarter of 2024.
