TaaleriEnergia orders energy storage system from MerusPower

After receiving the building permit, MerusPower was commissioned by TaaleriEnergia to develop and deliver a 30 MW/36 MWh battery energy storage system in Lempäälä, Finland, to support the operation of the power grid. This ambitious project is financed by a total investment estimated at approximately 20 million euros.

TaaleriEnergia has awarded MerusPower a contract to build a 30 MW/36 MWh battery energy storage system in Finland. This system will be built in Lempäälä to support the operation of the power grid.

MerusPower, Global Developer and Deliverer

MerusPower is responsible for the development of the project and the overall delivery of the energy storage system, from the time the building permit is obtained. The contract also includes MerusPower’s cloud-based service, which includes remote energy storage management and a power trading platform to optimize the customer’s battery usage and revenue in the electricity market.

The total investment for this project is approximately 20 million euros, with the possibility of increasing the size of the energy storage system in the future.

Modern Battery Energy Storage Systems

An ambitious pilot project has been implemented by TaaleriEnergia in Lempäälä, where a modern battery storage system is installed to support the Finnish power grid. This complex system consists of batteries designed by MerusPower, associated with TaaleriEnergia for this installation. When the need arises, MerusPower quickly provides sufficient reserve power on demand in fractions of a millisecond from the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) installed in Lempäälä. MerusPower’s grid inverters, control and protection systems and power trading platforms are all designed to ensure that customers receive the optimal service for each specific situation without interruption.

Contribute to the Balance of the Electricity System

The electricity grid and market have changed dramatically with the increase in renewable energy production. Most renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power cannot directly provide a stable rotating mass in the long term. Innovative solutions must be found so that extreme variations between production and consumption are compensated for, which requires a reliable and fast source, guaranteeing a stable system at all times.

The main mission of the Lempäälä battery energy storage system is to contribute to the balancing of generation and consumption of the main grid by participating in the frequency reserve market of the Finnish transmission system operator, called Fingrid. It will be the largest energy storage in Finland operating in the frequency reserve market in terms of capacity.
