Lhyfe and Schaeffler announce the signing of an agreement to boost renewable hydrogen production in Germany.

A partnership between Lhyfe and Schaeffler

Lhyfe and Schaeffler want to build and operate an electrolysis plant on the premises of Schaeffler’s plant in Herzogenaurach. The plant will have a capacity of up to 15MW. In addition, other regional players will be supplied with renewable hydrogen from the Schaeffler plant.

Luc Graré, Head of Central and Eastern Europe, says:

“We are proud to support a giant like Schaeffler AG in its transformation to climate neutral production by 2030. The rapid supply of renewable hydrogen remains a huge task. Large-scale projects like Schaeffler’s prove that the technology is ready, bring confidence and security to the market and increase the appetite for investment.”

An environmental approach

The objective of Lhyfe and Schaeffler is to supply the region with 3.7 tons of renewable hydrogen every day starting in 2025. Potential customers are municipalities and hydrogen filling stations.

Andreas Schick, Member of the Board of Directors for Production, Supply Chain Management and Purchasing at Schaeffler AG, says:

“The shift from fossil fuels to renewable energies plays a central role in our goal of climate-neutral production until 2030. By partnering with Lhyfe, we have successfully partnered with one of the most innovative companies to run the renewable hydrogen plant at our facility in Herzogenaurach. The agreement underscores Schaeffler’s commitment to sustainability and hydrogen technology.”

In addition, the waste heat generated by the electrolysis will be fed into the industrial processes of the Schaeffler plant. Lhyfe enables the regional and local implementation of hydrogen ecosystems and the customized production of renewable hydrogen.
