In Uch-Uchak, Uzbekistan, Voltalia announced that it had won a tender for a new solar power plant.

A solar project

In Uch-Uchak, in the western Uzbek province of Khorezm, Voltalia will develop a 123MW solar power plant. The nominated site is located near the Turkmen border about 150 km southeast of the provincial capital Urgentch. Moreover, the site is located about 900 kilometers west of the national capital Tashkent.

Voltalia was participating in a call for tenders. Indeed, the tender was supported by the World Bank. In addition, the initiative was part of IFC’s Solar Scaling program.

The Uch-Uchak solar power plant will use high-performance bifacial panels mounted on trackers. Commissioning would take place in 2024. The contract will include the design, construction, financing, ownership, operation and maintenance of the plant.

A recognized experience

In addition, the contract will also cover the design, financing and construction of the interconnection facilities. This investment will be financed by a loan. In addition, the Uch-Uchak plant will receive support from the region’s development finance institutions.

Sébastien Clerc, CEO of Voltalia, says:

“Following the signing of an innovative partnership agreement with the government of Uzbekistan in November, we are extremely pleased to have won this 123 megawatt solar tender today. Uzbekistan will be one of Voltalia’s key markets going forward and we are proud to help the country achieve its ambitious 2030 goals, significantly increasing the country’s renewable electricity generation and energy independence.”

Uzbekistan ‘s renewable energy deployment plan aims to develop 12GW of solar and wind capacity by 2030. Thus, this investment in Uch-Uchak will contribute to achieving the ambitious goals set by the Uzbek government.

Voltalia has a production capacity of more than 2.4GW in operation and under construction. In addition, the company has a portfolio of projects under development representing a total capacity of 13.6GW. In addition, the company has more than 1450 employees.
