The European Commission and industry players launch the European Photovoltaic Industry Alliance.

An ambitious project

The European Commission announces that this alliance is part of the REPowerEU plan. The EuropeanPhotovoltaic Industry Alliance includes industrial players, research institutes and associations. The objective of this alliance is to create a favorable environment for the European solar sector .

The initiative aims to mitigate delivery risk by ensuring diversification of supply. Thus, the European Commission wishes to diversify imports. In addition, it aims to intensify the manufacture of photovoltaic panels within the European Union (EU).

Increasing manufacturing capacity will be essential for the EU to meet its EPR goals. Indeed, the EU aims to deploy over 320GW of solar capacity by 2025. Moreover, by 2030, the goal is to increase this capacity to nearly 600GW.

The Alliance endorses this ambition to reach a production capacity of 30GW by 2025 across the value chain. In addition, thehe achievement of this objective would generate a new GDP of €60 billion per year in Europe. In addition, the initiative would to create more than 400,000 new jobs.

Promote the entire chain

This new alliance wishes, in particular, to guarantee investment opportunities in European photovoltaics. Thus, the partners will map the possibilities and create a pipeline of projects that can be funded. This measure aims to attract private investment to develop and market photovoltaic products manufactured in Europe.

Finally, the alliance also aims to align European, national and private investments. Thus, it seeks to develop a coherence with regard to the national plans for recovery and resilience. Furthermore, the European Commission hopes that it will support competitive products made in Europe.

In order to promote A favorable environment for the European solar photovoltaic sector the Alliance is addressing some existing barriers. For example, it plans to simplify authorization procedures for new production sites. The alliance will also ensure the supply of raw materials and components necessary for production.

It will detect cutting-edge innovations, especially through EU-funded research. In addition, the Alliance will work to address labor and skills shortages in the sector. In addition, it will help stimulate demand by encouraging the use of non-tariff criteria in public actions.
