Olympic Dam, a mine, is expected to benefit from Neoen’s renewable energy supply, following the signing of an energy contract. Neoen signed a 70 MW renewable energy contract with BHP in Australia.

A renewable energy

Olympic Dam is located in South Australia and from July 2025 Neoen will supply the mine with energy. This contract will cover half of the mine’s electrical consumption. It is one of the world’s largest deposits of copper, gold and uranium.

Under the terms of the contract, Neoen will supply 70MW of renewable energy to the mine. Thus, the company will feed the site permanently. Neoen will dedicate half of the production of the Goyder South Stage 1 wind farm to this contract.

A global project

Goyder South Stage 1 is a 412MW wind farm currently under construction. This is the first phase of Neonen’s project, Goyder Renewables Zone. This is a hybrid wind, solar and storage project near Burra in the Mid North region of South Australia.

The Australian Capital Territory and Flow Power are participating in a 209MW long-term power purchase agreement. A second 203MW contract is supported by BHP. Jennifer Purdie, president of BHP Olympic Dam Asset states:

“The world needs South Australia’s high-quality copper to build renewable technologies and infrastructure […]. This agreement will support BHP on its decarbonization journey and provide new, enhanced renewable energy and stability to the South Australian grid.”
