Siemens Gamesa, chosen by Energiequelle, will supply 150MW of wind power to Finland with the Mikonkeidas project. This is the first project between the two companies.

A new partnership

Siemens Gamesa and Energiequelle will develop a 105MW wind farm in the municipality of Kristiinankaupunki. For this first collaboration, Siemens will supply the 16 SG 6.6-170 wind turbines. Clark MacFarlane, CEO of Siemens Gamesa’s Northern Europe and Middle East operations, says:

“It’s great to begin a new relationship and partnership with Energiequelle and we will work closely together to ensure the success of the Mikonkeidas wind project. Energiequelle has considerable experience developing projects in Finland, and it is exciting to have the Siemens Gamesa 5.X wind turbine join their extensive portfolio.”

In addition, the wind turbines installed on 145-meter towers will make the best use of the wind conditions in the region. The wind farm is expected to be installed in the first half of 2024. In addition, the companies are planning a 35-year long-term service contract covering the maintenance of the wind turbines.

Finland relies on wind power

Wind energy is developing rapidly in Finland. According to the industry organization WindEurope, wind power accounts for 10% of the country’s electricity. Helsinki aims to reach 27% by 2025 thanks to onshore and offshore wind power.

The country aims to be carbon neutral by 2035, much faster than most European nations. Siemens Gamesa has been working in Finland since 1996 and continues to install state-of-the-art technology. In addition, the company provides service support to enable Finland to achieve its climate goals.
