An energy storage project

Axium and Canadian Solar subsidiaries announce that Crimson Storage has a capacity of 350MW/1400MWh. The project is located in Riverde County, California, USA. The two companies own 80% of the project and its developer, Recurrent Energy, retains 20%.

Crimson Storage is the world’s largest battery storage project to go live in a single phase. In addition, it is also the second largest energy storage project currently in operation. Finally, the project holds two long-term energy storage contracts.

These contracts involve two California utilities, Southern California Edison and Pacific Gas and Electric Company. The first one has a contract of 200MW/800 MWh for a duration of 14 years and 10 months. The second contract is for 15 years for 150 MW/600 MWh.

A political approval

Recurrent Energy and Axium will operate the battery system in the wholesale electricity market in California. The company markets 2, GWh of energy storage projects under construction or operation. In addition, the firm has an additional 15GWh pipeline of energy storage projects in development.

The Crimson Storage project received final approval from the Bureau of Land Management in May 2021. The project, by Axium and Canadian Solarest subsidiaries, is the first to receive this approval under the Biden-Harris administration. In addition, it will add $30 million in property tax revenue to the local community during its operation.

Crimson Storage will distribute enough electricity to power more than 47,000 homes annually. It will eliminate up to 275,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year. Thus, this figure represents more than 53,000 cars in circulation.
