Sembcorp Industries, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Sembcorp Green Infra Private Limited, has announced the completion of its acquisition of ReNew Sun Bright Private Limited, the owner and operator of a 300 megawatt solar project located in Fatehgarh, in the Indian state of Rajasthan. This transaction is part of the group’s strategy to strengthen its low-carbon energy portfolio in Asia.
Strengthening Sembcorp’s footprint in India
With this acquisition, Sembcorp brings its installed and under-development renewable capacity in India to over 7.6 gigawatts. The Fatehgarh project marks another step in the company’s solar expansion in a country where energy demand continues to rise. This development comes amid strong competition in the renewables market, where players seek to secure operational or advanced-stage assets.
The acquired project is fully operational, allowing for immediate integration into Sembcorp’s generation portfolio. The facility is already producing electricity, which reduces risks associated with new site development and generates revenue from day one. No official amount has been disclosed for this transaction, which was concluded with ReNew Private Limited, an Indian company specialising in clean energy.
Expansion of global portfolio
Globally, Sembcorp’s renewables portfolio now totals 20.2 gigawatts, including one pending acquisition. The group continues to invest in high-performance energy assets in line with its regional growth strategy across Asia and other emerging markets.
According to data provided by the company, this latest deal is part of a series of transactions focused on operational assets, supporting a stable expansion of its renewable electricity output without relying on new, riskier developments.
