Aker Solutions has signed a five-year contract with ExxonMobil Canada Properties to continue providing maintenance and modification services on the offshore Hebron oil platform. The agreement extends the original engineering, procurement, and construction contract awarded in 2015, further solidifying the Norwegian company’s involvement in brownfield operations in Canada.
Extension of a strategic industrial partnership
Since 2015, Aker Solutions has delivered multidisciplinary services to the Hebron platform, located off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. The new agreement continues this cooperation and aims to support the platform’s operational performance through targeted maintenance, upgrades, and optimisation works. The company stated the extension will allow it to deploy its Project Execution Model to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions while controlling costs.
Paal Eikeseth, Executive Vice President and Head of Aker Solutions’ Life Cycle Business, said the project would benefit from rapid and precise execution, supported by locally developed expertise. “We leverage our multi-discipline model to ensure effective outcomes and reduce costs,” he said.
Strengthening operations in Newfoundland and Labrador
Activities under the contract will be led from Aker Solutions’ site in St. John’s, the capital of Newfoundland and Labrador. The company has significantly expanded its presence there in recent years, increasing its staff from 100 to 350 employees. This local base plays a key role in supporting the logistical and operational demands of offshore commitments.
The Hebron platform, operated by ExxonMobil Canada Properties under a partnership, remains one of the major oil production assets off the Canadian Atlantic coast. The site continues to be a strategic hub for the region’s offshore industry. Eikeseth highlighted the importance of the Canadian market for Aker Solutions, stating that the company maintains a long-term perspective in the country.
