Energy services group Expro has completed the first commercial use of its ELITE Composition™ service on an offshore exploration well in Cyprus for an international oil and gas operator. This deployment represents a step forward in rapid fluid analysis in offshore environments, a field traditionally reliant on remote laboratories.
Strategic time savings for operators
The service, launched this year, enables laboratory-grade fluid measurements to be conducted directly at the drilling site in approximately eight hours. This method significantly shortens operational timelines previously extended by sample shipping to international laboratories, which often involved logistical and regulatory delays lasting several months.
This initial deployment combined several technologies, including TurboPVT™, ELITE Composition™, and contaminant analysis. These tools enabled quick validation of sampling runs, calibration of wireline logs at the rig, and dynamic reservoir modelling. The data collected reinforced confidence in development planning within this geologically active zone.
Technology showcase for Expro in the Mediterranean
The project serves as a demonstration of Expro’s strategy to bring advanced analysis capabilities directly to the wellsite. By reducing project risk associated with data delays, the company aims to improve operators’ responsiveness during deepwater exploration.
According to Gregório Rodrigues, Vice President of Well Flow Management at Expro, this operation confirms growing interest in the company’s services across exploration markets. He stated that the service is expected to play a central role in future wells, particularly in emerging areas and technically intensive projects.
