The Italian industrial sector takes a significant step toward energy independence with the launch of the construction of a 5.1 MWp solar plant in Terranova dei Passerini, in the province of Lodi, Lombardy. This project results from a collaboration between GreenYellow, a specialist in decentralized energy transition, and Sasol Italy, the local subsidiary of the multinational group active in the energy and chemicals sectors. Once completed, the project will allow Sasol Italy to cover a significant portion of its electricity needs with green, local, and competitive energy.
The facility will be managed through a custom Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), offering stable economic conditions over the long term. Through this contractual model, Sasol Italy will be able to directly consume the energy produced, manage any surplus, and benefit from availability guarantees. At full capacity, the plant will generate 7.6 GWh annually, which is equivalent to the yearly consumption of 2,800 Italian households, and will also lead to a reduction of CO2 emissions by 4,000 tons per year.

The solar project in Terranova dei Passerini is not only an environmental initiative. It also represents a viable economic model for industries seeking to reduce their energy costs while committing to the energy transition. By producing electricity at a stable and competitive price, this project allows Sasol Italy to diversify its energy supply while contributing to Italy’s climate goals.

Sebastiano Durante, Senior Manager Strategic Sourcing Energy & Emissions at Sasol Italy, says, “This project represents an important step in our sustainability strategy and our goal of reducing emissions at our Italian industrial sites.” The plant is expected to be operational in the second half of 2026, marking a turning point for Sasol Italy in securing a stable and sustainable energy supply.
