Dutch company Eneco has acquired Prowind GmbH’s wind project development business in the Netherlands, adding approximately 260 MW of wind capacity to its portfolio. This acquisition represents a significant step in Eneco’s growth strategy, aimed at boosting its sustainable energy production, particularly in the onshore wind sector.
The projects involved in the deal include several wind farms under development, such as the Horst & Telgt and De Lutte sites located in the eastern Netherlands. The integration of Prowind’s Dutch employees into Eneco, a team of six individuals, is expected to ensure the continuity of these projects while providing the Dutch company with a broader geographic spread.
Strategic Move for Prowind
Prowind, which has extensive experience in the wind energy sector in Germany, has decided to refocus its operations on its home market, which is experiencing strong growth. The company views this sale as a way to optimize its resources and better focus on wind projects in Germany, where the sector is booming. This move is part of a strategy to accelerate project implementation in its home country.
For Prowind, selling its Dutch operations to Eneco is an opportunity to capitalize on existing projects while strengthening its position in a market where demand for renewable energy is continually rising. “We are very pleased that our people and projects will be in good hands with Eneco,” said Johannes Busmann, owner and managing director of Prowind GmbH.
Continued Expansion for Eneco
Meanwhile, Eneco, led by Erwin Leeuwis, Director of Renewable Power, emphasized that acquiring Prowind’s projects will further diversify its portfolio, especially in the eastern Netherlands. This region, traditionally underutilized for renewable energy production, will offer Eneco new opportunities to increase its sustainable energy generation and meet its ambitious energy transition goals.
The acquisition of Prowind fits into Eneco’s long-term strategy to strengthen its position as a leader in renewable energy, particularly in wind power. The continuity of local staff will ensure a smooth transition and optimal management of the projects already in progress.
