Energy producer REDEN has commissioned a 3-hectare agrivoltaic greenhouse in Montaut, located in the Ariège department. Developed in partnership with the Lippens family farm, the facility is the first of its kind in the area. With an installed capacity of 3,000 kilowatt-peak (kWp), the greenhouse is expected to generate around 4,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) annually, the equivalent of the yearly electricity consumption of 900 households.
A dual-purpose infrastructure with productive aims
Built on a Venlo glass and steel structure, the greenhouse spans nearly 30,000 square metres. It provides shelter for sensitive crops such as red kiwis, citrus fruits and avocado trees, while enabling energy recovery from the cultivated area. The model is designed to provide economic stability to farmers by integrating agricultural production and solar generation on the same site.
REDEN, active in the photovoltaic sector for more than fifteen years, continues its national deployment strategy of agrivoltaic greenhouses with this project. The group also manufactures its own photovoltaic modules and offers storage solutions, reinforcing its control over the value chain. This model supports farms in their diversification projects and adaptation to climatic constraints.
Family partnership and scalable model
The project was led by three generations of the Lippens family, whose agricultural operation now relies on a hybrid production facility. According to the project owners, the infrastructure opens new development prospects for the farm while maintaining family continuity. The aim is to develop high-value agricultural sectors while ensuring optimal production conditions year-round.
Construction of the greenhouse also stimulated local activity, particularly in employment and services related to the operation and maintenance of the facility. REDEN is pursuing integrated, locally anchored projects to ensure the sustainability of its investments and enable replication in other rural areas of France.
Territorial expansion of the agrivoltaic solution
With this project, REDEN confirms its intention to extend the deployment of its agrivoltaic solutions to other departments. The company targets agricultural regions where combining crop protection and solar power generation shows strong potential. The model allows farmers to secure their income while addressing the growing demand for electricity.
The group aims to establish a regional presence based on long-term partnerships with farmers, adapting each installation to local agricultural constraints. REDEN is positioning its projects within a broader effort to modernise farming structures using equipment suited to new production and market conditions.
