Eos Energy secures 228 MWh strategic order from Frontier Power

American company Eos Energy Enterprises, Inc. has announced a 228 megawatt-hour (MWh) energy storage systems order from UK-based Frontier Power Ltd. This order marks the first conversion under a 5 gigawatt-hour (GWh) framework agreement signed earlier this year between the two companies. The goal is to accelerate the deployment of long-duration storage technologies across diversified energy markets.

A first step in a long-term partnership

The systems ordered by Frontier Power will incorporate Eos’ proprietary Z3™ zinc-based technology and its DawnOS™ energy management platform. This integration will allow performance validation in real grid environments, ahead of Frontier’s upcoming projects under the UK energy regulator Office of Gas and Electricity Markets’ (Ofgem) Cap-and-Floor programme.

Frontier Power recently advanced a portfolio of 11 GWh of long-duration storage projects into the second phase of the programme, using only Eos’ technology. This more than doubles the company’s original commitment and reflects increasing interest in eight-hour-plus storage solutions, amid growing grid reliability needs.

An industrial momentum driven by zinc technology

The Z3™ technology developed by Eos relies on a zinc-based battery, known for its safety, extended life cycle, and non-flammable components. These features are designed to meet the needs of large-scale grid applications, as the sector seeks alternatives to lithium-ion battery solutions.

This commercial milestone comes as Eos also confirms it has reached the final cash milestone related to a strategic investment from an affiliate of Cerberus Capital Management LP. No new preferred shares or warrants will be issued following this payment, in line with the agreement terms.

Towards international deployment of long-duration storage

The partnership between Eos and Frontier is part of a broader strategy to create an industrial platform supporting the international expansion of long-duration storage solutions. The two companies aim to meet rising demand for flexible and reliable power generation capacity amid energy transitions and power grid transformation.
