P.S.P. Specialties Public Company Limited, a Thai manufacturer of technical oils, has announced its entry into the Philippine energy market. This move comes as the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) implements a large-scale grid modernisation programme, with a budget of PHP900bn ($15.8bn) dedicated to infrastructure through 2040.
The plan includes the installation of 34,150 megavolt-amperes (MVA) of new transformer capacity, intended to absorb growing electricity demand and support the integration of renewable energy. The expansion also aims to improve grid stability by connecting areas that are currently underserved or unconnected.
Growing need for certified transformer fluids
Against this backdrop, demand is rising for high-performance transformer oils. P.S.P. Specialties, active in the sector for over 30 years, offers internationally certified technical fluids. The company targets public utilities, industrial manufacturers and renewable energy developers operating in the country.
Sakesan Krongphanich, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of P.S.P. Specialties, stated that “the Philippines today represent one of the most dynamic electric infrastructure markets in Southeast Asia,” highlighting the country’s growing role in the regional energy interconnection sector.
Renewable targets and offshore wind development
The national programme aims for 35% of electricity to come from renewable sources by 2030, and 50% by 2040. To support this transition, the country is developing 63.36 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind projects. These projects will require reliable solutions for long-distance energy transmission, often under challenging climate conditions.
Transformer oils play a critical role in such infrastructure by ensuring insulation and cooling of equipment. P.S.P. Specialties’ offering addresses these demands, adapting to local standards while maintaining compatibility with international performance benchmarks.
