Waaree Energies Ltd, an Indian solar module manufacturer, has begun commercial operations of a new 950 megawatt (MW) production line at its plant in Degam, located in the Navsari district of Gujarat. The company stated that the photovoltaic (PV) module line has been fully operational since September 30.
Capacity expansion in a key manufacturing hub
The Degam site is part of a network of manufacturing facilities operated by Waaree Energies across Gujarat, including units in Chikhli, Surat, Tumb, and Nandigram. An additional module plant is also located in Greater Noida. Founded in 1990, the company currently reports an industrial capacity of approximately 15 gigawatts (GW) for PV modules and 5.4 MW for solar cells.
The new 950 MW line adds to an earlier 1.8 GW facility commissioned during the summer at the same location. This dual investment highlights the company’s rapid scale-up within one of India’s leading solar manufacturing centres.
Expansion programme and technology diversification
As part of its long-term industrial strategy, Waaree Energies plans to add 6 GW of manufacturing capacity across the full value chain, including silicon ingots, wafers, cells, and modules. In parallel, the company has announced plans to build a lithium-ion cell factory with a capacity of 3.5 gigawatt-hours (GWh), aimed at supporting the development of projects combining solar production and storage.
No construction timeline has been disclosed for the upcoming facility. The group stated that the investment is intended to back its offerings in hybrid projects and integrated engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) solutions.
