Efko, one of the main food groups of the Russian Federation, took the lead in Russia’s sunflower oil exports to India at the end of the 2024–2025 season, according to its Executive Director Sergey Ivanov. Out of a total of 3,96 million tonnes exported by Russia, 1,55 million tonnes were destined for the Indian market. Efko contributed 564,000 tonnes to this performance.
Expansion in India’s vegetable oil market
Beyond sunflower oil, Efko also shipped nearly 800,000 tonnes of vegetable oils, including soybean oil and rapeseed oil, to India. This diversification enabled the company to establish itself as a leading player in a strategic market marked by strong demand for imported edible oils. The group delivers its products in bulk by tanker ship, meeting the logistical requirements of its local partners.
Indian interest in Russian food innovations
Efko used its presence in India to highlight sugar substitutes, notably sweet proteins presented as an innovation under development. Although the exact nature of these products was not detailed, Ivanov mentioned growing interest among Indian partners in these alternatives. These initiatives form part of a broader strategy to penetrate the Indian market beyond traditional raw materials.
Official presence at World Food India 2025
Efko’s growing footprint in India comes as a trade mission led by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation and the Agroexport Federal Center is held from 25 to 28 September as part of the World Food India 2025 exhibition. The event, regarded as the country’s main agri-food showcase, brings together producers and distributors from the global sector.
