VSB Germany, a subsidiary of the VSB Group, confirmed that over 800 megawatts (MW) of projects are currently undergoing regulatory approval in the German market. The portfolio includes onshore wind power, solar photovoltaic installations, and battery storage systems. Of this capacity, nearly 330 MW were submitted over the past twelve months, reflecting sustained activity in medium-term energy project development.
A portfolio focused on repowering
Approximately 20% of the current development capacity comes from repowering operations, which involve replacing or upgrading existing wind turbines on pre-developed sites. This share aligns with a broader trend in the German sector, where repowering accounted for 35% of newly commissioned capacity during the first half of the year. This model enhances project competitiveness while limiting land use and administrative constraints typically associated with greenfield developments.
Strengthening strategic assets in Germany
Germany remains one of the VSB Group’s priority markets, with a total project pipeline now exceeding 20 gigawatts across Europe. The German subsidiary structures its activities around a combination of new projects and existing asset optimisation. The increasing use of repowering is presented as a key lever to sustain growth in a more competitive environment marked by stricter permitting processes.
Industrial momentum at HUSUM Wind
These announcements coincided with the wind industry gathering at HUSUM Wind in North Frisia, highlighting the sector’s strategic shifts. Discussions focused on securing industrial value chains and accelerating investments in decentralised production technologies. The event underlined the growing role of high-value projects, particularly those integrating storage and site modernisation components.
