The Electroverse platform, developed by British electricity provider Octopus Energy, has announced surpassing one million public charging points for electric vehicles (EV) globally. The solution is based on a simplified model, allowing users to access a vast international network with one card, without fixed fees or subscriptions. Available in 40 countries and 20 languages through a mobile application, Electroverse offers an interactive map updated in real-time showing the availability and pricing of each charging station.
Significant growth in Europe
Since its launch in the United Kingdom in 2020, Electroverse has quickly become Europe’s largest platform in terms of the number of available EV charging points. Currently, its European network totals more than 950,000 accessible public charging stations, representing approximately 80% of Europe’s available infrastructure, and collaborates with 1,200 operators including Powerdot, Electra, TotalEnergies, Izivia, Driveco, and IONITY. Each day, the platform adds nearly 500 new charging stations to its existing network.
In France, Electroverse began operations in 2023 and now offers its users direct access to more than 153,000 public charging points, covering approximately 94% of French territory. According to data provided by the company, the annual growth in the number of Electroverse users in France reached 321% last year.
Transparent pricing
The success of the platform also relies on an economic model with no hidden fees. Electroverse charges customers the exact price applied by third-party operators, without adding any margin, entrance fees, or mandatory subscriptions. This cost-reflective billing approach constitutes a decisive commercial advantage that has led to substantial growth in user numbers, particularly in the French market.
Octopus Energy France, which markets Electroverse in France, currently has more than 600,000 electricity meters connected to its national network. The company plans to invest €1 billion in renewable energies across France by the end of 2025.
Government context and perspectives
This announcement comes shortly after the French government declared its intention to significantly accelerate the national deployment of public electric vehicle charging stations. The official objective aims to support the rapid development of the electric vehicle market, a sector expanding across Europe, particularly in France, where electric vehicle sales increase significantly each year.
According to Lancelot d’Hauthuille, General Manager of Octopus Energy France, Electroverse’s development aligns directly with this usage simplification strategy: “Public electric charging has long been a major obstacle to switching to fully electric vehicles. It is by simplifying it that we will succeed in changing habits,” he stated.
