Westbridge Renewable Energy Corp. has formalised its entry into the US data centre market with the announcement of its first digital infrastructure project, Fontus, located in the state of Colorado. The project, with a capacity exceeding 380 megawatts (MW), represents a strategic diversification towards rapidly expanding digital infrastructure, driven by rising demand for digital, cloud, and artificial intelligence services.

Strategic infrastructure and enhanced connectivity

Situated close to significant urban areas, the Fontus project site benefits from rapid access to a regional carrier-neutral fibre network hub. This strategic location provides high connectivity and low latency for end-users. Immediate availability of fibre optic network capacity is central to attracting technology companies seeking to optimise their computing capabilities.

Fontus has already completed critical initial stages, including land acquisition and environmental feasibility studies. Processes for interconnection to electricity and gas grids have also been initiated. This early operational phase allows Westbridge Renewable Energy to actively proceed with necessary steps for full project realisation.

Complementarity with historical operations

For Westbridge Renewable Energy, this project directly complements its historical core operations developing large-scale renewable energy infrastructure. According to Stefano Romanin, President and CEO of Westbridge Renewable Energy, “this project is a natural extension of our renewable energy platform, leveraging our core competencies in land acquisition, permitting processes, and grid infrastructure.”

Fontus is designed with a long-term perspective, incorporating potential future synergies with the company’s renewable energy generation assets. Such integration could enable more diverse and potentially renewable energy sourcing, aligning the project with growing digital sector demands for sustainable energy management.

Rapid evolution of the data centre sector

The US data centre market is experiencing rapid evolution, fuelled by exponential growth in data consumption. According to Westbridge Renewable Energy, Fontus precisely meets fundamental criteria of major digital solution users: high power availability, geographic proximity, and large-scale connectivity.

The company expects to announce further developments soon, including the confirmation of major contracts with potential clients. Stefano Romanin highlighted that data centres like Fontus are becoming “essential infrastructure, supporting a rapidly expanding digital ecosystem.”
