The Amite Solar Center, developed by Amite Solar, LLC, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, LLC, is now operational in Tangipahoa Parish. It represents the company’s first utility-scale energy facility in Louisiana. With a production capacity of 100 megawatts, the site is now supplying electricity to the state’s power grid at a fixed price for 25 years, as part of a partnership with Dixie Electric Membership Corporation (DEMCO).
A project completed after 15 months of construction
The facility began producing electricity in March 2025, following a fifteen-month construction phase. According to figures released by the company, approximately 200 jobs were created during this period, with significant local economic impact tied to the purchase of regional goods and services. DEMCO, which serves more than 100,000 members across the state, signed a long-term contract with NextEra Energy Resources, ensuring fixed energy pricing for the coming decades.
Tax revenues and energy infrastructure
Over a 30-year period, the Amite Solar Center is expected to generate approximately $16mn (EUR14.9mn) in additional tax revenues for Tangipahoa Parish. According to NextEra Energy Resources, these funds could be used to support local infrastructure such as schools and roads. The site, owned and operated by a direct subsidiary of the company, is designed for long-term operation with sustained economic impact in the region.
Strategic first step in the state
This development marks NextEra Energy Resources’ first industrial-scale entry into the Louisiana market. The company is among the leading energy infrastructure developers in the United States, with a growing portfolio of solar, wind, and energy storage projects. The collaboration with DEMCO aligns with a regional diversification strategy amid rising energy demand.
