Swiss company Axpo has secured a combined capacity of 163 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy through two public tenders organized by the French Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE). These results highlight the company’s strategic commitment to the energy transition across Europe.

A winning strategy with Urbasolar

Axpo, through its subsidiary Urbasolar, secured 124 megawatts-peak (MWp) of solar capacity, the second-largest allocation in this tender. These projects include a diverse range of photovoltaic sites—ground-mounted, agricultural, and floating—spread across nine French regions. This achievement brings Urbasolar’s cumulative solar capacity awarded in CRE tenders to over 1.7 gigawatts (GW) since these tenders began over a decade ago. Antoine Millioud, Urbasolar’s Managing Director, stated: “This result reflects our experience and expertise, enabling us to support the energy transition with cutting-edge projects.”

Volkswind: strengthening wind power generation

Meanwhile, Axpo’s wind subsidiary, Volkswind, secured 39 MW for four wind farm projects. These initiatives aim to enhance local renewable energy supply, contributing to France’s ambitious energy goals. Katja Stommel, Volkswind CEO, emphasized that these achievements underscore Axpo’s strategic commitment to innovative energy solutions while supporting local communities.

Diversified projects and strategic adaptability

Urbasolar’s solar projects cover a range of applications, from integrated agricultural installations to floating photovoltaic solutions, meeting the diverse needs of the territories. This diversified positioning allows Axpo to sustain stable and sustainable growth in a competitive market.

Conversely, Volkswind’s wind projects focus on areas with high wind energy potential. These wind farms will contribute to diversifying energy supply and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. This dual strategy strengthens Axpo’s influence in the French energy market.

A strengthened presence in France

Based in Lyon, Axpo France pursues a variety of activities, from portfolio management to gas and electricity supply. By working closely with local producers and traders, the subsidiary develops solutions tailored to national energy requirements. This strategic positioning, combined with robust partnerships, plays a key role in integrating renewable energy into France’s energy mix.

These achievements reinforce Axpo’s position as a key player in the European energy strategy, while meeting growing demands for clean and sustainable energy sources.
