Meta Platforms, Inc.
has entered into a strategic agreement with Arevon Energy, Inc.
to develop a 60-megawatt (MW) solar project in Pike County, Indiana.
The facility, called the Heirloom Solar Project, is part of Meta’s efforts to secure a reliable, renewable energy supply for its operations, including its data centers.
The partnership underlines the growing commitment of technology companies to secure their energy consumption through long-term contracts with energy producers.
Construction of Heirloom Solar is already underway, with commissioning scheduled for the third quarter of 2025.
This project is part of a series of collaborations between Meta and Arevon, which now total over 400 MW of clean energy.
This will enable Meta to continue to guarantee a constant and sustainable power supply for its critical infrastructures, while optimizing its long-term energy costs.

Economic impact and local integration

The implementation of the Heirloom solar project in Pike County will bring significant economic benefits to the region. Arevon is committed to injecting more than $86 million into local coffers over the life of the project.
This funding is intended to support infrastructure and public services, improving the quality of life for residents without compromising existing agricultural practices.
Indeed, landowners will continue to use their land for farming, while receiving additional income from the regular payments associated with the operation of the solar panels.
The project will mobilize around 200 workers, creating temporary employment opportunities in an area that rarely benefits from such industrial investment.
This initiative demonstrates that large-scale renewable energy projects can be carried out without causing major disruption to local economic activities, while offering tangible benefits to the community.

Strengthening Meta’s energy strategy

By teaming up with Arevon once again, Meta is consolidating its energy strategy, aimed at stabilizing costs and securing its long-term electricity supply.
The Heirloom project, like the previous ones developed in collaboration with Arevon, is part of a series of initiatives designed to strengthen Meta’s energy independence from traditional grids, while supporting a more sustainable approach to the operation of its data centers.
Arevon, for its part, is strengthening its position as a key supplier for technology companies seeking to diversify their energy mix.
This type of partnership, focused on large-scale projects, bears witness to an evolution in the relationship between renewable energy producers and large corporate consumers, with the latter increasingly becoming direct players in the energy sector.
