АЭС Trawsfynydd находится в центре переговоров с правительством Уэльса о поставке малых модульных реакторов (SMR) в Великобританию. Участок расположен в Северном Уэльсе. NuScale заявляет, что готова внедрить свою технологию SMR на площадке.

Поэтому на площадке Trawsfynydd может быть размещена технология SMR, как и на площадке Gwynedd. Действительно, в Гвинеде намечен срок строительства на 2027 год. В Траусфиниде существуют три потенциальные площадки, по которым заключено соглашение с Управлением по выводу из эксплуатации ядерных объектов

Rolls-Royce SMR и Balfour Beatty подписали меморандумы о взаимопонимани для планирования строительства реакторов SMR. Это будут легководные реакторы под давлением SMR-160 компании Holtec. Компания планирует начать процесс нормативной проверки в Великобритани.

Технология, которую необходимо внедрить

NuScale утверждает, что ее технология SMR VOYGR уже находится в разработке. Осталось только развернуть его на сайтах. Том Манди, председатель VOYGR, сказал:

“Мы считаем, что у нас есть все возможности для того, чтобы двигаться дальше. Это не значит, что мы должны снова разрабатывать технологию, а затем продвигать проекты.”

Согласно NuScale, правительство заинтересовано в поддержке технологии SMR как части общего энергетического уравнения Великобритании. Конструкция VOYGR 12 позволяет разместить до 12 модулей питания NuScale. Общая валовая выработка в этом случае составляет 924 МВтэ.

Энергетический модуль NuScale также представляет собой реактор с водой под давлением для выработки пара. Интегрированный теплообмен в одном блоке генерирует 77 МВтэ. Это первый SMR, получивший одобрение проекта от Комиссии по ядерному регулированию США.
